Adam West was the first live action Batman that I can remember seeing. Up until then it had been Justice League and Scooby Doo crossover cartoons. Although the show was long over by the time I started watching it left a undeniable imprint on my DNA. I think most fans of the show really gravitated towards the joker. No surprise there. My favorite episodes though were the riddler episodes. West’s Batman made solving the most ridiculous riddles a breeze. West seemed really have some disdain for the role after the series ended. He was always looked at as that goofy Batman. It was good to hear late in life he came back around to really embrace that role and past. For me Adam West will always be The Batman.
Daily Mail – The first attempts to bring people back from the dead are slated to start this year.
Bioquark, a Philadelphia-based company, announced in late 2016 that they believe brain death is not ‘irreversible’.
So right off the bat the fact that they are tucking this away in some Latin America country is a big red flag. Really let’s just save a step here and start eating each other. Accompany trying to this is like John Connor getting a job at Cyberdine Systems and building a robot. I guess it’s time to just pack up the bunker because as a society I guess we’ve decided to help the whole self destruct process along. I guess the run went on as long as we could have expected. It’s really like they’ve never seen a single movie that tries this. There’s gonna be zombies or demons or zombie demons everywhere.
If there was a single toy/ cartoon that defined my childhood it was He-Man. Obsession would barely scratch the surface of how into it I was. I had the big wheel. Countless toys and of course Castle Grayskull. The ultimate in He-Man over indulgence. My mind is shaken of early 80s christmas’s but I’m fairly sure I complained about not getting it only to open it after. I was a jerk kid. Anyway the remaining pieces still rest in my garage and might be worth pulling out just to see what is left.
What if your child is really into things like “interaction, attention, and stories?” Well in 1986 the world found a cure for that in the form of Teddy Ruxpin and best friend Grubby (get it?). From what I can remember Teddy is the first toy I had that I guess you would call ” interactive”. Really you just put a cassette in his back and he would tell you the story on the cassette. His mouth and eyes all moved. Now I was a jerk spoiled kid and had Grubby too. So I could attach a cable between the two and they would kind of act out the story together. To this day I have a tote of the books and tapes in the basement. It really was a win-win. Parents got to get out of reading time and I got a cool toy that I still have and really loved.
Teddy is also getting a 2017 reboot. And it might eat your soul
Captain Power. Honestly my memory is not great on this toy. I had the spaceship and some sort of power pad captain would stand on. Mostly I remember my dad recording the show on Beta so I could play over and over. I see this commercial now and realize just how hokey but totally awesome it was. The production value reminds me of the Japanese produced side of the original power rangers. And clearly Star Trek ripped off lord dredd when creating the borg. My power pad is long gone and my rocket ship missing all the ejector parts but man this toy was way ahead of itself.
As a soon to be parent I am so excited to start buying toys for my son. Everyone loves getting something and when I browse the toys now they are just amazing at what is out there. So the toys will kinda be for both of us, for a while. So every tuesday I’m going to dip into my own childhood toybox of things I have saved, or things I remember playing with and kind of discuss them or at least fondly remember them.
Today is the Ecto – 1 from the 80’s Ghostbusters
I’m sure over time I will cover my Ghostbusters collection in great detail. movies, toys, all of it. But to kick things off its the car. The best accessory for the Ghostbusters. I remember trying to perfect that siren sound, even trying to record it off the movie and play it back when playing with the toys to really get a ” real life” feeling.” A few accessories have gone missing for it, the back door is long gone, but it still holds a place in my toy box and has held up great. More than once the ecto-1 become an airborne toy flying off rams and thrown through the air after ghosts, it also doubled as a water vehicle and occasional island refuge for some reason. All plastic I’m impressed it still stands and I guess my son will just have to love Ghostbusters as well, but I guess he can play with it either way.
If you stumbled across my first post, welcome.
I decided to start this blog because I am about to become a first time father, and have always been a full time nerd. Looking around online I didn’t come across lots of things for father out there that would also consider themselves nerds, and what I did come across came off as most ways to try and sell me things and sponsored posts. My goal here is to just discuss preparing for fatherhood, sharing my nostalgia of growing up an 80’s kid, and my experiences with my son as I expose him to things I liked and I learn what he likes as he grows. I hope you join me, I hope you find it funny and entertaining, and I look forward to hopefully years of fun.
